What a night!
What a night! Rich and I watched the election returns on pins and needles (and not the quilting kind). Seconds after 11 p.m., when the announcement of the new president was made, tears flowed! Corny, I know. But it was just amazing, and we felt such pride. In the morning while I was out buying various newspapers, I heard a very ugly comment. Just as I thought that stuff would fade into the past, I was quickly reminded that it’s not happening any time soon. That attitude took some of the air out of my feeling high balloon. Far more gratifying, however, was all of the eye contact and smiles going on between strangers. It reminded me of 9/11 with the huge difference of being united with the feeling of hope rather than of horror.

Hey Gloria,
Yes, there will be ugly comments, change scares some people so much that it throws them backwards, but an overwhelming momentum for postive change is growing so that old fear can’t hold us back. It feels like America is on the right track again.

It does! It’s not going to be an easy road by any stretch, but maybe, just maybe, people will begin working together to make a positive difference rather than hyper-focus on every little perceived evidence of doom and gloom.

Maybe the disappointments of the McCain believers will disappear soon…they need a chance to mourn…hopefully they will get over it quicker than the Dems did with Bush. It seemed that that mourning lasted 8 years. It really saddened me to see so much disrespect directed at our very own President. We might not agree with our President, he might not be perfect, but the job of President is not an easy one…every president has aged greatly in the post…and as an American I do believe respect is due. Obama wasn’t my choice, but he is my President and I will not bash him, make fun of him, or curse him…I will pray for him to do right by me and keep our country safe and hope that he will be a good President.

I agree with you in that once someone is elected, they are elected. My hope is that everyone joins together and move forward.
