From Joanne Fink:
David Brog, former Chief of Staff for Senator Arlen Specter says the ‘magic number’ of communications (phone calls, letters, e-mails, post-cards, etc.) is 1,000. He says if an office gets over a thousand pieces of correspondence on one particular issue they start to pay attention. So I guess our goal is to make sure that every Senator and Congressman/woman receives at least 1,000 pieces of mail. Apparently they do not all have to be from constituents, although it is better if they are.

Just thought I would share an easier solution for finding Congressional contacts. Users enter their addresses and receive a list of contacts to match. You can quickly find your senators’ telephone numbers and other contact info by going to http://www.congress.org and entering your zip code on the left. I’m convinced calls and letters are making a difference. But it’s vital that we not exaggerate our concerns (such as stating the bills REQUIRE us to register works with others; they may make this our most practical solution, but there is no legal change in registration requirements). And it certainly helps if you can point to specific, realistic problems with the bill. Congress is clearly very sensitive on this issue, and we need to help them understand our legitimate concerns.
