Joanne’s Calligraphy
While in Orlando for Photoshop World, my business partner and I met with Joanne Fink regarding a new site for her company. Joanne is an artist extraordinare specializing in calligraphy. She has taught in Japan and has written the calligraphy how-to books for Faber-Castell, makers of various calligraphy pens. She is President of Lakeside Designs, a small graphics company located in Orlando Florida that creates a wide range of products from greeting cards to books, collectibles to giftwraps, ceramics and more. It was such fun perusing her studios and meeting her staff. There were creative messes everywhere (my kind of place) with pens, and paints, and various artwork in stacks and piles. I went through several of her portfolios with, no kidding, thousands of designs. It was extremely impressive and lots of fun.
As Joanne was showing us some of her pens, she drew me my name in calligraphy with a seemingly effortless breeze.
She also gave me and Derry one of her Faber-Castell calligraphy sets (I’ve seen such sets in art stores for years and had no idea Joanne is the person who wrote the books). We have the best clients!
