The flying Bud-z
Wow, does Bud-Z have jump! I’ve been working with Bud-z letting him off his leash for a while to run around the backyard. I mainly keep an eye on him to see if there are any weak spots in the fence (amazingly a rabbit ate through the bottom of one area). Last week, rather than wanting to get out of the yard, he decided to go up a tree after a squirrel. Initially I stayed outside with him for about 1/2 hour. He stayed with that tree, not going anywhere else. I then went inside while continuing to keep an eye on him through a window. He jumped and jumped and jumped more. He threw his body up that tree with all of his might and did it over and over. Every half hour or so I took a bowl of water over to him. He lapped it up and then continued jumping. Finally, after about 3 plus hours, he came into the house, panted, drank more water, and then went to sleep. Interestingly, since jumping up that tree for those hours, he hasn’t jumped on it again. And, he’s been much calmer. Hmmm ….
It will be 10 weeks since Buddy died this coming Thursday. It still hurts like heck to think about his sad fate. I like to believe that Buddy is glad we’re taking care of Bud-z. We don’t know what Bud-z’s background was, and the little scars on his face above his eye tell me that he probably had some difficult days. But when I see him laying on the grass in the shade under a tree, he seems to be smiling while soaking in the breeze. He looks very happy, and that does warm my heart.

Hi Gloria,
I was really interested to read about Bud-z. Amazing on his persistence. As I read more of your blog, I remembered your story of adopting him and the passing of Buddy. Can’t believe it has been 10 weeks. I am glad that Bud-z is adapting and happy in his new home. Our sick Siberian is still with us. It has been touch and go once or twice in the past months and she has now lost her eyesight. However, she appears to be enjoying the warmer days and we aren’t ready to let her go, as long as she is comfortable. Pets are amazing the way they bond to us.

Takes three hours of hard exercise to wear the dog out… I am glad he had a good time doing it and that all you had to do was provide water. That is a lot of exercise to provide. Interesting how you found out how much exercise this dog could really use…probably most days…. hang in there water girl…

It is a lot of exercise! He’s outside now barking at a squirrel or rabbit. My neighbors must love him. Actually, from inside of the house the barking doesn’t sound too loud; outside it can be piercing!

Gloria, thank you for the information on how to photograph through a fence. Now I need to retake some photos with different settings to see if I can make the screen disappear in my “view from my studio window” photos. I’m pretty much a novice photographer with my dslr so I need all the help I can get to learn.

You’re welcome Lois! I have some photos I recently took that used the same method. It allowed me to get a couple nice pictures of a bald eagle that was at a zoo. :)
