in Mercer and Middlesex Counties.\u00a0 I was extremely surprised that I didn&#8217;t find one monarch.\u00a0 It was the strangest thing.\u00a0 One year there were literally hundreds of monarch butterflies at Davidson Pond, but I didn&#8217;t have my camera with me (yes, I nearly cried).\u00a0 In years past, at the very least there were six to ten.\u00a0 This year, nothing.\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s the extreme heat and humidity.\u00a0 It certainly looks prime, with many butterflies bushes in full bloom, blue skies, sunny.<\/p>\n<p>This morning I got up earlier and went out again.\u00a0 This time I found one, just one, Eastern swallowtail butterfly.\u00a0 I was able to snap off some pictures, but not many.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-378\" title=\"butter_july02\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july02.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july02-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were several of these little guys.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-378\" title=\"butter_july03\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And many of these moths.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-378\" title=\"butter_july04\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But this was the lone &#8220;star.&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-378\" title=\"butter_july05\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I did speak with a woman who was also stunned by the lack of butterflies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-378\" title=\"butter_july06\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She seemed to think it was a ominous sign.\u00a0 I hope not!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-378\" title=\"butter_july07\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/butter_july07.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I waited, sitting under a large pine tree to keep out of the direct sun.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click the link to the right to see the rest of the photos &#8230;
