{"id":1404,"date":"2009-02-01T01:06:20","date_gmt":"2009-02-01T05:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/?p=1404"},"modified":"2009-06-29T19:53:09","modified_gmt":"2009-06-29T23:53:09","slug":"journal-07","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/?p=1404","title":{"rendered":"Journal 07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1405 aligncenter\" title=\"07journal\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/07journal.jpg\" alt=\"07journal\" width=\"320\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/07journal.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/07journal-229x300.jpg 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is my 2007 Journal Project, displayed at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas and, I believe their sister shows in Chicago and Long Beach.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s called &#8220;Know Way Out,&#8221; a play on words as many of the pictures in the collage are various exits and ways out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1407 aligncenter\" title=\"2007_journalquilt-a\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/2007_journalquilt-a.jpg\" alt=\"2007_journalquilt-a\" width=\"420\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/2007_journalquilt-a.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/2007_journalquilt-a-300x190.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I took the photographs for this piece while in England and in France.\u00a0 The bottom image was taken through the plane windows as the plane was descending into Birmingham airport.\u00a0 The sheep was in a field probably in Worcestershire.\u00a0 On the far right is a picture from\u00a0 the Gare du Nord in Paris, the middle is from a tube station in London, and the far right is from a subway exis area in either Paris or Lyon.<\/p>\n<p>The blue that frames the image is painted tyvec that was then burned.\u00a0 While I burned some of it before stitching it down, I burned the edges after stitching it down &#8212; and I did this *very* carefully.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1406 aligncenter\" title=\"2007_journalquiltb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/2007_journalquiltb.jpg\" alt=\"2007_journalquiltb\" width=\"420\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/2007_journalquiltb.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/2007_journalquiltb-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this you can see lots more images collaged together.\u00a0 I do think there is so much going on that much is lost in the small 11&#215;14 inch format of the quilt.\u00a0 The excitement of collaging the images together was quickly dulled by my disappointment of the overall finished piece.\u00a0 It was too late to toss it, as I was down to the wire on the deadline.\u00a0 So I finished it and sent it off.<\/p>\n<p>I do have all of the various files that made up this piece, and I think about doing another version, removing some of the layers altogether, and printing it either on large textured paper or again on fabric, but in a larger format &#8211; maybe 24&#8243; wide.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see.\u00a0 I did learn a valuable lesson in this piece:\u00a0 Sometimes less is more.\u00a0\u00a0 Another day I&#8217;ll post my 2008 piece.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is my 2007 Journal Project, displayed at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas and, I believe their sister shows in Chicago and Long Beach.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s called &#8220;Know Way Out,&#8221; a play on words as many of the pictures in the collage are various exits and ways out.
