{"id":1106,"date":"2008-12-16T01:27:52","date_gmt":"2008-12-16T05:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/?p=1106"},"modified":"2009-06-29T20:20:29","modified_gmt":"2009-06-30T00:20:29","slug":"swans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/?p=1106","title":{"rendered":"Swans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I needed to make some 6&#215;4&#8243; pieces that will be mounted on form core, the added to watercolor paper,\u00a0 and displayed in a box frame for an upcoming Fiber Revolution show.\u00a0 I decided to do something with a photograph I took of a swan while\u00a0 visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1114\" title=\"swan1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan1.jpg\" alt=\"swan1\" width=\"420\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan1.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan1-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the original photo.\u00a0 I was pleased with the lighting in the photo and the overall look of the swan. It seemed a good image play with some digital ideas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1108\" title=\"swan2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan2.jpg\" alt=\"swan2\" width=\"420\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan2.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan2-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using a variety of filters, this was the first.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1112\" title=\"swan3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan3.jpg\" alt=\"swan3\" width=\"420\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan3.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan3-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I kept going with it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1109\" title=\"swan4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan4.jpg\" alt=\"swan4\" width=\"420\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan4.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan4-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this one, I added a layer and used a brush to create lines with a low opacity to create streaky lines behind the swan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1118\" title=\"swan51\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan51.jpg\" alt=\"swan51\" width=\"420\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan51.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan51-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I decided to crop into the swan, add another layer, and paint different background colors, and apply more filters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1111\" title=\"swan6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan6.jpg\" alt=\"swan6\" width=\"420\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan6.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan6-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another version.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1110\" title=\"swan7\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan7.jpg\" alt=\"swan7\" width=\"420\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan7.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.gloriahansen.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/swan7-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And yet another.<\/p>\n<p>I like the grainy quality in them and particularly like the second and fifth versions.\u00a0 I did several other versions than what I have here.\u00a0 I tend to get carried away, doing\u00a0 so many versions and experimentations, making lots of prints, playing around with additional ideas in my sketch book, that it&#8217;s a wonder I get anything done.\u00a0 (The same thing happens when I design for clients.\u00a0 I do a zillion of them.)\u00a0 Many times I think I&#8217;m onto a new series for quilts, and I end up leaving it all in my sketchbook and then coming back to it a year or two later.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what happened with my Blushing Triangles 3 and 4 quilts &#8212; I did the layouts for them a couple years ago, left them in my sketchbook, and only decided to create one last year and one this year.\u00a0 I digress.\u00a0 Once I print a couple of these,\u00a0 I&#8217;ll add paint and possibly some pastel highlights to it to give it some extra omph.\u00a0 Then, hopefully, I&#8217;ll finish one or two by Friday when I&#8217;ll be meeting up with another member of the group.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll be framing the pieces.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be taking pictures for the group, and I&#8217;ll post my final.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I continued designing.\u00a0 I have another piece due for a new group I joined.\u00a0 I decided to use time as my theme.\u00a0 I have a thing with time, always feeling that I&#8217;m not getting enough finished, not maximizing my minutes, hours, days.\u00a0 I have a zillion photos of clocks that I&#8217;ve taken all over the place &#8212; in the US, the UK, France.\u00a0 In addition to the designs I created for the group, it seems I have another series in the making. I have a slew of designs for it, although who knows what I&#8217;ll actually make. \u00a0 I&#8217;ll post some of the images once I get it the small project for the group finished.<\/p>\n<p>Witley Decay is a piece I completed earlier this year.\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy to report that\u00a0 it was accepted in the Transformations &#8217;09 SAQA show which will be premiering at the Festival of Quilts show in Birmingham, England.\u00a0 At some point I&#8217;ll post information on it, too.\u00a0 That quilt is a different direction for me.\u00a0 I have more in that series, too.\u00a0 However, I still have some other designs left in different series that I feel still need to be made.\u00a0 In other words, I haven&#8217;t yet exhausted my need to continue with them.\u00a0 See, not enough time!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I needed to make some 6&#215;4&#8243; pieces that will be mounted on form core, the added to watercolor paper,\u00a0 and displayed in a box frame for an upcoming Fiber Revolution show.\u00a0 I decided to do something with a photograph I took of a swan while\u00a0 visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon.
